Over the weekend my husband and I went to Balboa Island for a date night. He’s a consummate Southern California beach person (who actually grew up on Balboa Island) while I’m a sun-shunning cold weather fan, so we compromised by going sailing at sunset. We bought some pizza, rented a little electric boat, and just puttered around in the harbor for a while.
If you’re not a southern California resident, you may have only heard of Balboa Island from Arrested Development. It’s not terribly different from the way the show portrays it.

You get the point. (And if you don’t, go watch Arrested Development. Not only is it hilarious, but it’s depicts southern California with eerie accuracy.)
I took a few pictures while out on the water, which I think showcase the real draw of the area… blue skies, calm waters, and lots of boats and scenery to check out. I thought the fog was particularly pretty.
