With school starting up again for many, and the days getting noticeably shorter, now is a good time to start changing up your wardrobe, hair, and makeup. I started back up in college over the summer and didn’t have a summer break, but I still feel the newness in the air, and am inspired by all of the cute new looks I’m seeing in magazines and from fashion shows. If you’re looking for some simple ways to transition your look to fall, read on!
Hair
Some days are hot and sticky. Some are chilly and blustery. No matter what, you want to look polished. A bun is a great way to keep your hair out of your face and still look cute. As an added bonus, they look great paired with scarves and jackets.
If a plain bun sounds a bit… well, plain, then try the new trend of double buns. PLL’s Lucy Hale recently showed off her version of the style (re)made famous by Miley Cyrus’s MTV Awards performance look. It’s still a simple style, but updated and on-trend.
Fashion
The classic idea of a fall wardrobe includes thick cable-knit sweaters, corduroy, leather, and an endless array of scarves, all in deep jewel tones. This is all well and good, except when fashion dictates dressing like it’s about to snow while in reality it’s still hot and humid out. Until that crisp, cool weather appears, try mixing in your summer favorites to get a little bit more out of them while you still can. Denim is big this season, so hold on to those boyfriend jeans and cutoff shorts. Top them with a light tank top and grab a plaid button up or a light trench for when it gets cooler.
Another option is to go for the fall colors in summer fabrics and cuts. A breezy summer dress in orange or white will look great in warm weather when paired with bare legs and sandals, but once the temperature lowers, it can easily be incorporated into a fall look by adding opaque tights, boots, and a cardigan or jacket.
For reference, Pantone chose the following colors as the most popular ones in fashion this autumn:

Beauty
Pick one: eyes or lips. This season, it’s all about emphasizing one or the other, particularly in sophisticated berry tones and subtle definition. Cut creases, wine-stained lips, or bold brows are all very predominant in the fall 2013 makeup looks.

And then there’s the trend of grape eyeshadow. If you like purple, and purple likes you, this is an excellent time to bust out a vivid eyeshadow. MAC pigments in Violet or Grape will replicate this saturated hue, as will Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Shadow in Painted Purple, L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Perpetual Purple, or Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in Elemental Chaos.
