I’m a movie geek. In particular, I’m a horror movie geek. From just after my birthday at the end of June until well into November, I immerse myself in scary movies. It’s a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit, but really, I just find them fun to watch. Here are 15* horror movies (ranging from silly-scary to stay-awake-all-night-scary) that I have been enjoying on Netflix. Click on any of images for my quick summary of them. A classic tale of a mother's love gone awry. Brought back to life by the latest season of Mad Men, this movie is a thinker's scary flick. Who doesn't love prom? The excitement, the glamour, the pig blood. Watch this one and empathize with Carrie's growing pains and, erm, her anger management issues. Children are scary. This movie is proof. This is the 1998 version with Vince Vaughn and Anne Heche. Now you can see the famous shower scene in color! Scared of the dark? You will be after watching this. Sort of a whodunnit with a horror twist. This one will keep you on your toes and looking over your back. The horror movie lover's horror movies. Self-aware, post-post-modern, and just plain fun. Another fun horror, with squirmy things, Pam Beesely, and Merle from The Walking Dead. This is kind of what a horror movie would look like if Aria from Pretty Little Liars went on vacation. Typical teen scream, but fun to watch. A love story, a comedy, and a gore-filled thriller all in one. Bonus: it teaches the importance of good communication skills and not playing into stereotypes! Kind of. Like the Scream movies, this is a horror fan's dream. Er, nightmare. This movie was like a drama that happened to have a very scary thread running through it. Filmed in the style of a ghost hunter documentary, I was legitimately enthralled and then terrified. Can be slow at times though. It's Jennifer Lawrence running around. With scary stuff. 'Nuff said. A twisty, suspenseful horror movie... this one was less scary and more horrific. And Bill from True Blood's in it! I guess this could be termed a biological horror movie/social commentary with an environmentalist vibe. I didn't expect this one to be as haunting for me as it was.

There’s not a whole lot of rhyme or reason to this list, except that these are all currently available on Netflix. Most of these I found enjoyable, if not particularly well-written or well-made, and all of them scratch that horror movie itch. Am I missing any good ones? Let me know in a comment below!

*Yes, I totally counted all four of the Scream movies as one film. I like them a lot, and I like them all together. So there. :P
