The Product: Fresh Rose Face Mask
Yays:
- This smells rather nice, like a bouquet of roses on a hot day.
- It has a smooth, slippery consistency that is very easy to apply. When I put it on, I get a very pleasant cooling sensation on my face.
- Moisturizes my skin pretty well and calms any irritations without breaking me out.
- Very low-key. It’s doesn’t scream “I HAVE A MASK ON!!!1!111!!” when you apply it, so you can even go outside with it if you had to. (If you’re like me and just feel weird with very colorful masks on. Is it just me who feels that way?)
- A little goes a long way, so my deluxe sample of this has been through four applications and still looks full.
Nays:
- Goodgodallmighty, this thing is expensive.
- It looks kinda like slimy swamp goop. Or, at the very least, rotten rose goop. I’m not at all certain what to do about the large chunks of brown rose petal things floating around in it, so when I use it, I sort of uncomfortably avoid those bits. And then I feel a little bit guilty, like I just rejected part of what is supposed to make this mask special. And then I feel a little worried about having strong feelings about a mask. And now you probably know way more about my neurotic mind than you ever wanted to.
Final Verdict: I dunno, guys. Nay? Probably nay, with a tiny bit of guilt and hesitation. This mask feels nice and definitely moisturizes my skin, but I just don’t get the sense of luxury or magnificence that I feel I should get for a product at this price. Hand me a La Mer moisturizer or a Serge Lutens perfume, and I can say without a doubt that it’s worth the money. With this, I almost feel like I could concoct something in my kitchen that feels equally moisturizing and cooling. Being a deluxe sample (there’s about an ounce in a plastic jar) I didn’t actually pay for this, and I don’t think I would. Now if only Serge Lutens made a moisturizing mask that went with my beloved Fleurs de Citronnier, then I’d be poor tempted.
