What’s In My Purse? (AKA, My EDC)

Fun fact: I’m very into prep/survival learning. I try to marry the principles that mindset instills with everyday life while maintaining some sense of “normal” look. While it’s tough to run around in hiking boots and a CamelBak everyday (and a good prepper will tell you not to do this anyway!) I try to be conscious of what I carry and make sure that it all has a purpose. This is my EDC, or everyday carry for going to work:

Kate Spade leather purse

Chanel Double Perfection compact

Coach leather wallet

RayBan Jackie Ohh sunglasses and case

iPhone charger cable

Smith & Wesson ExtremeOps folding knife

Chanel lipstick (Boy)

Burt’s Bees lip balm

Mini-size perfume (Fleurs de Citronnier by Serge Lutens)

Pilot G-2 pen (10)

Not pictured: iPhone 5, OtterBox case, keys

This is a pretty basic setup that serves me well, although I do want to add a small first aid kit (probably in an Altoids tin) with some bandages, pain relief medication, eye drops, etc. I also want to switch to a cross-body bag that carries a little more. This Kate Spade bag has lasted me for years and it’s still in great condition, and I love the easy access to what’s inside, but I don’t love that it’s always open for anyone to possibly take stuff. Because of the design and the way I carry it (looped through my left arm with my palm facing up) it also means I effectively only have one hand free when I’m carrying it. A cross-body that zips closed will be much more secure as well as freeing up both hands.
